Java was the language used for teaching programming in school. Hated every minute of it, but was pleased to be able to make something useful with it. Dumped it quickly for Python.
I learned Java, and wished I hadn't. I immediately sought a less verbose, more productive language, and found it in Python. It took a while, but I'm now programming professionally. Yes, in Python.
Starting to play with Erlang. The concepts are improving my other programming efforts. I'm looking forward to using it for a real project sometime this year, 2010.
I don't remember precisely when I used this, and I can't say I really understood what I was doing, but I typed in a couple of games from the magazines, and got them to run.
