My first operating system! I loved it so much. After 1987ish I stopped using it until one more time to touch it in 1998. Of course, they kept my son on it through elementary school which ended in 2001.

MS-DOS

1987–2006

I think I first started on a girlfriend's dad's desktop getting an ancient computer game called 'Bushido' to play. Last time I touched MS-Dos was probably around December of 2006.

Windows 3.1

1994–1996

Used it for work and the odd video game. Favorite video game were these two airplane turn based games. One had jets and the other had WWII prop planes.

Windows 95

1995–1998

I'm pretty sure I started in 1995. Used it for work and games until Win98 came out.

NeXTSTEP

1998

I got a couple NeXT pizza boxes as a present. Played with it for a bit and then went back to Windows. What was I thinking? The pizza platters are in storage. The monitor got accidentally tossed by my son in January and was rained on before I could rescue it.

1998–2000

How could you not go wrong with this winner? I mean, Microsoft spent so much on marketing it had to be good!

I started with a book that had a Redhat CD.

2000–2001

Um.. yeah.

Windows Me

2000–2002

On my desk top at home it actually worked pretty well. Until some idiot opened up Internet Exploder (which I had hid) and then it was all downhill as the viruses took over.

Windows XP

2002–2009

My work environment for years. In 2007 it became just for games. After 2008 it became just for World of Warcraft. In 2009 I dropped that game and started my life over partly because others did not drop the game.

Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger)

2006

The first Mac I played with used this but had a bad power connector. Sometimes the machine just shutdown. I used it to store pictures on my first trip outside the USA.

Ubuntu

2006–

I think I started with it in 2006. I installed it on a Desktop machine and experience joy. Used it intermittently ever since.

2007–2010

Where I picked up steam on the Mac.

2008–2010

Just a cursory understanding.

Finally bought my first personal machine.
